Job Description: Aerospace Technology - Spacecraft Design Engineer
Position Overview:
The Aerospace Technology - Spacecraft Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing spacecraft and related systems. This role requires a deep understanding of aerospace engineering principles and the ability to apply them to create innovative and efficient spacecraft designs. The Spacecraft Design Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of design requirements and the integration of various systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop spacecraft systems, including structures, propulsion systems, thermal control systems, electrical systems, and avionics, adhering to project requirements and industry standards.
2. Create detailed technical drawings, specifications, and models using computer-aided design (CAD) software to facilitate the manufacturing and assembly processes.
3. Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and performance evaluations to optimize spacecraft designs and identify potential issues or limitations.
4. Collaborate with internal teams, including systems engineering, propulsion, guidance and navigation, and mission operations, to ensure seamless integration of subsystems and achieve overall spacecraft objectives.
5. Participate in design reviews, provide technical expertise, and propose design modifications based on feedback and analysis.
6. Perform simulations and analyses to evaluate the structural integrity, thermal behavior, aerodynamic performance, and overall functionality of spacecraft designs.
7. Keep up-to-date with industry advancements and emerging technologies in spacecraft design and recommend innovative solutions to enhance performance, efficiency, and safety.
8. Support the manufacturing and assembly processes by providing technical guidance, troubleshooting design issues, and assisting with quality control inspections.
9. Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and contractors to source components, materials, and subsystems required for spacecraft development.
10. Document design decisions, specifications, and test results in comprehensive technical reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and project requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Proven experience (X number of years) in spacecraft design, development, and testing within the aerospace industry.
3. In-depth knowledge of aerospace engineering principles, including structural analysis, propulsion systems, thermal control, electrical systems, and avionics.
4. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
5. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills to evaluate complex design challenges and develop effective solutions.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
7. Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
8. Detail-oriented and meticulous approach to work, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
9. Familiarity with industry-specific tools and software for simulation, analysis, and documentation, such as ANSYS, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
10. Knowledge of spacecraft manufacturing processes and quality control procedures.
